Istanbul and around Turkey Travel Guide
It wouldn’t win any prizes for design in Europe, but in Seoul the towering spire and red brick walls are appealingly incongruous. Nearby is the Bank of Korea Museum (한국 은행 화폐금융 박물관), though the notes and coins on display are less interesting than the building itself, which was designed and built by the Japanese in the first years of their occupation. Stretching north from the shores of Lake Huron and Lake Superior, northern Ontario is almost entirely flat, give or take the odd ridge and chasm, an endless expanse of forest and lake pouring over the mineral-rich rocks of the Canadian Shield.
Barcelona Photo Gallery – Virtual tour around Barcelona’s most famous landmarks and attractions. Auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws are common for short distances, and cabs are easy to book via apps. But the real MVP here is the local bus system, which is surprisingly punctual and clean. If you’re confident behind the wheel, renting a self-drive car is also a great way to hop between sectors. Old-school charm meets strong filter coffee at Indian Coffee House.
From action-packed cities to romantic rural escapes, you’re invited to step into the real-life places that inspire your favourite films and TV shows. Across our isles, you’ll discover memorable characters, thrilling experiences and the warmest of British welcomes. Bali has tourist shuttle buses that operate between major destinations. These are more expensive than buses and bemos but more convenient. However, a lack of street names and traffic congestion – particularly in Southern Bali and Ubud – can make things confusing for self-drivers.

I should know, and my London travel guide will help you find the places I’ve photographed. You can have a perfect Saturday walking around South Kensington and Notting Hill, a perfect Sunday in east London, and a great day off the beaten path in Hampstead Garden Suburb. And that’s to say nothing of the spring gardens, summer gardens and secret gardens dotted throughout the city. Hyde Park is the obvious place to start, but there are other parks in London that are worth a place on any traveler’s bucket list.
To get a sense of what makes Seoul so unique, however, you’ll need to do more than tick off the sights. To truly appreciate the subtle facets of this distinctive society, take a leap of faith into the local cuisine, follow the Korean lead on a wild night (and early morning) out, and spend a decent amount of time simply walking the streets. Dive into inspiring travel articles, practical tips, and local recommendations from across Finland.
In the 1960s, the heartfelt soul of masters like Otis Redding preceded the explosion of talent that came to define the Motown era, born in Detroit. The blues was forged from a combination of African and gospel sounds into a simple twelve-bar form during the late nineteenth century. You can still catch Mississippi blues in Delta juke joints, and electrified urban blues in the gritty clubs of Chicago. Golf, once the province of moneyed businessmen, has attracted a wider following in recent decades due to the rise of celebrity golfers such as Tiger Woods and the construction of numerous municipal and public courses. You’ll have your best access at these, where a round of golf may cost from $15 for a beaten-down set of links to around $50 for a chintzier course.

Penghu, in the middle of the Taiwan Strait, is an archipelago of magnificent beaches, old temples and crumbling fishing villages, a haven for windsurfing and other watersports. Just off the coast of China’s Fujian province, the Matsu Islands provide a rare taster of traditional northern Fujian culture, as well as Taiwan’s recent military history. The theme is continued on Kinmen, literally within sight of the now booming mainland city of Xiamen and rapidly remodelling itself as an open-air museum. Central Taiwan is home to some spectacular scenery, though it pays to spend a couple of days in vibrant Taichung, renowned for its teahouses and lively nightlife.
There are also plenty of gentler beach breaks, which are ideal for beginners. If you want to surf, go from April to October when the southeast trade winds blow offshore, fanning the waves off Bali’s southwest coast. Aside from the beach and other water-based activities in the southern resorts, Bali’s Waterbom Park is fun for all ages. In Ubud there’s Swing Heaven with jungle swings and beds enjoying stunning views of the Ayung river. Surfing, mountain-biking, whitewater rafting and horseriding will tire out teens, whilst the Bird and Reptile parks in Batubulan and the Bali Safari and Marine Park in Gianyar are ideal for budding David Attenboroughs.

But there are many more with wonderful beaches and every island has great swimming even when the beaches don’t have the typical golden sand you’re expecting.
With a warm Mediterranean climate, you can expect lots of sunshine and good temperatures, making it the perfect destination for outdoor activities and beach days. Seoul’s wide array of traditional performances and musicals are particularly popular with foreign travellers. Seoul has a few venues where you can hear more highbrow offerings such as jazz or classical music. On weekends there’s an interesting flea market at which local students sell handmade jewellery and other trinkets. Seoul does have other gay zones; the area around Jongno 3-ga station has long been home to underground gay bars, and recent years have seen the scene becoming more and more open. Unfortunately, few venues are foreigner-friendly, though the Starmoon café attracts all sorts – it’s in the ground floor of the tall Fraser Suites building.

The most anonymous and least visited of Seoul’s Five Grand Palaces (even locals who work in the area may struggle to point you towards it) is Gyeonghuigung (경희궁; Tues–Sun 9am–6pm; free), which was built in 1616. Lonely and a little forlorn, it’s a pretty place nonetheless, and may be the palace for you if crowds, souvenir shops and camera-dodging aren’t to your liking. Unlike other palaces, you’ll be able to enter the throne room – bare but for the throne, but worth a look – before scrambling up to the halls of the upper level, which are backed with grass and rock. We have gathered a selection of travel routes from different parts of the country. Find interesting sights to see, places to visit, and restaurants to dine in.
Hotel review: London Marriott Hotel Park Lane
Here, the tapering Bay of Fundy boasts mind-blowing tides – rising and falling by 9m or more – and superb maritime landscapes, while the region’s tiny fishing villages are at their most beguiling near Halifax, the busy capital of Nova Scotia. Even prettier are the land and seascapes of Cape Breton Island, whose rugged topography anticipates that of the island of Newfoundland to the north. Newfoundland’s isolation has spawned a distinctive culture that’s at its most lively in St John’s, where the local folk music scene is Canada’s best. The island also boasts some of the Atlantic seaboard’s finest landscapes, particularly the flat-topped peaks and glacier-gouged lakes of Gros Morne National Park.
• Norway’s population numbers just under 5 million, of whom 600,000 or so live in Oslo, the capital. Bergen, Norway’s second city, clocks up about 250,000 residents, while around 40,000 indigenous Sámi (Lapps) live mostly in the north of the country. Portugal’s beaches and coastline are a sun-kissed paradise, with over 1790 kilometers of sparkling sand. From thrilling water sports near Ferragudo to leisurely beach hopping or simply basking in the summer sun, visiting the coastline is one of the best things to do in Portugal.

Many domestic intercity buses stop at the Moscow Intercity Bus Terminal, next to the Shchelkovskaya Metro Station at the eastern terminus of Metro Line 3 (dark blue). Buses to the popular tourist destination of Suzdal operate from this station. It is generally easier to travel via plane or train so most visitors to Moscow will not use the intercity buses.
These towns are, however, merely the froth of a vast wilderness that extends up to Nordkapp (North Cape), one of the northernmost points of mainland Europe, and the spot where the principal tourist trail peters out. Yet Norway continues east for several hundred kilometres, round to remote Kirkenes near the Russian border, while inland stretches an immense and hostile upland plateau, the Finnmarksvidda, one of the last haunts of the Sámi reindeer-herders. And finally, a short flight away, there is the wondrous chill of Svalbard, rising remote in the Arctic seas, islands of rolling glaciers and ice-glazed mountains where the snowmobile or Zodiac is more useful than a car. Norway stretches north in a long, slender band from the Skagerrak, the choppy channel that separates the country from Denmark, its coastline battered and buffeted by the Atlantic as it juts up towards the Arctic Sea. It is this stark contrast – between a severely impoverished past and an astoundingly wealthy present – that, for locals at least, remains a salient characteristic of life up here.

A Turkish naval college was established on Heybeliada and Atatürk’s private yacht was moored here as a training ship. Thanks to the many historical highlights, Seville is seen by many people as the most beautiful city of Andalusia and Spain. Conclusion, considering all the Arabic influences, the narrow winding streets, parks and the large historic centre (Barrio de Santa Cruz). Barrio de Triana, a district of Seville Spain is seen as the birthplace of flamenco, the typical Spanish dance and music. The Spanish city is famous for its Mudéjar architecture, which is a mix of Islamic and Catholic architectural styles.
How Many Days in Lisbon?
Scarred by industrial complexes and crisscrossed by rail lines, Thunder Bay is not immediately enticing, but it does have enough of interest to make a pleasant stopover on the long journey to or from Winnipeg and points west. The most agreeable part of town is the few blocks stretching inland from behind the marina in Thunder Bay North, north of Central Avenue, where you’ll also find several good cafés and restaurants. Thunder Bay South is much less appealing, but on its outskirts is the city’s star turn, the replica fur-trading post of Fort William Historical Park.
All the principal sights and most visitor facilities are located here, the pick of which stretch along the waterfront, but its real appeal is as the starting point for a splendid wilderness train ride on the Algoma Central Railway. Fathom Five National Marine Park comprises a scattering of uninhabited islands and the waters that surround them at the end of the Bruce Peninsula, offshore from Tobermory. To protect the natural habitat, only Flowerpot Island, 4km from the mainland, has any amenities, with limited space for camping – six sites only – and a couple of short hiking trails that explore its eastern reaches.

Grab a beer on the go – You can enjoy a beer just about anywhere in Berlin. Pick up a large beer from the supermarket or Späti (a corner store) for as little as 0.80 EUR and head to the park to lounge the day away. Much of the drug exchange happens at Kottbusser Tor – if you’re walking through here, do so with caution. At Trabiworld, you can rent one of the old DDR gear shift Trabant cars and take a spin around Berlin on a “Trabi Safari” (the cars were manufactured in East Germany). Cruise around on a planned route by the sites of the East Side Gallery part of the former Berlin Wall. Plus, you even get to keep your “Trabi license” as a souvenir at the end.
If you are more inclined towards personalized travel guidebooks by locals, ViaHero is one of the best to consider. The platform also promises to take the hassle of planning by outsourcing a day-by-day traveling guide from an expert, aka a ‘Hero.’ The good thing, however, is that you will be updated about every step of the planning. Lonely Planet is a dominant brand in the travel industry, offering both travel guides and other resources on destinations worldwide. I used this app to plan a trip to Asia and I can’t recommend it enough. It takes a lot of the work out of planning where to go, on which days, and in which order.
It’s a remarkable concentration of medieval buildings principally dating from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, when Barcelona reached the height of its commercial prosperity before being absorbed into the burgeoning kingdom of Castile. If you’re planning a trip to Spain, don’t miss our Spain itineraries and information on how to get there. There’s also great things to do for free in Barcelona such as the magic fountains or creating your own modernist house hop.
As a very rough guide, for labour alone expect to pay B5000–6000 for a two-piece suit, though some tailors will charge rather more (check whether or not the price you’re quoted includes the lining). For middling material, expect to pay about B3000–5000, or anything up to B20,000 for top-class cloth. With the exception of silk, local materials are frequently of poor quality and for suits in particular you’re far better off using English or Italian cloth. Most tailors stock both imported and local fabrics, but bringing your own from home can work out significantly cheaper.
Tourism: best time to visit Seville
All of this makes a vacation in Portugal perfect for adventure lovers. Most popular with tourists are the streets around Insadonggil, where restaurants almost exclusively serve traditional Korean food in an equally fitting atmosphere. Then there’s cosmopolitan Itaewon, where local restaurants are outnumbered by those serving Indian, Japanese, Thai or Italian food, among others. Student areas such as Hongdae and Daehangno are filled with cheap places, while Gangnam is also popular with local youth, and trendy Apgujeong with the fashionistas. Its small size, central location and easy access – take exit two from City Hall subway station – ensure that Deoksugung (덕수궁) is often very busy. These neoclassical structures remain the most notable on the complex.

The country is now in the middle of a kitchen renaissance, returning to its long-standing local food traditions; once again, Norwegians are consulting their grandmothers’ recipe books. Switzerland is an outdoor playground, and the Swiss Alps are calling your name! London Travel Guide: London Sightseeing
Much of this expanse is sparsely inhabited and the majority of the 35 million Canadians live in its southern half, relatively close to the US border. Like its neighbour to the south, Canada is a spectrum of cultures, a hotchpotch of immigrant groups who supplanted the continent’s many Aboriginal peoples. She helped us on the fly when unexpected situations happened and we had a great trip. Our accommodations, transportation, and destinations that she arranged couldn’t have been better.
Explore all the best places in Portugal, or check out our 2-week Portugal itinerary. Though there are precious few tourist sights as such, it’s possibly the best place in the land to get an understanding of what really makes Korea tick. Dongdaemun market is the largest in the country, spread out, open-air and indoors, in various locations around the prettified Cheonggyecheon creek. It would be impossible to list the whole range of things on sale here – you’ll find yourself walking past anything from herbs to hanbok or paper lanterns to knock-off clothing, usually on sale for reasonable prices. Though each section of the market has its own opening and closing time, the complex as a whole simply never closes, so at least part of it will be open whenever you decide to come. Nighttime is when the market is at its most atmospheric, with clothes stores pumping out music into the street at ear-splitting volume, and the air filled with the smell of freshly made food sizzling at street-side stalls.
Fortifications on the hill date back as far as the 1st century BCE though the current castle dates to the Middle Ages. It was damaged during various earthquakes and more or less abandoned for centuries until the 1930s when it was finally restored and renovated. Today, you can tour the castle and the towers (they offer a beautiful view of the city) and visit the small archeological museum inside. There is also a small garden you can relax in as well as a restaurant. If your schedule is tight, you can manage to experience the main attractions of Venice in one or two days. Focus on the main sights such as St Mark’s Square, St Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace, take a gondola ride and perhaps stroll the streets.
